San Rafael Swell Recreation Area

I haven't seen many pictographs before, but Buckhorn Panel takes the cake, by far. Before you even get to the panel the drive through the San Rafael Canyon is utterly breathtaking. You don't think anything could top it, then you park at the base of a100 ft sandstone wall, you walk up to the most beautiful ancient drawings you've ever seen, I will admit that I teared up. This is one of the pictograph drawings on the wall, could be up to three thousand years old, and might depict a snake striking a human. But nobody really knows and that is my favorite thing about this art, it all remains mostly a mystery.
