I visited Yellowstone National Park in the spring. Many of the herbivores were giving birth, providing easy meals for predators. Two days before we saw this same coyote eating an elk calf while it was still alive. The coyote can be distinguished because it is lame on the right rear leg. This pronghorn female was having none of it, however, and she successfully chased the coyote away from her newborn.
