Milky Way over Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Thanks to its high elevation (around 2500 meters or 8000 feet for the metrically challenged), clean air, and remote location Bryce has one of the darkest skies in the US, and in 2019 officially gained International Dark Sky status. Despite its name, Bryce Canyon is not actually a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters excavated by erosion. This erosion formed these delicate and colorful pinnacles called hoodoos that are up to 60 m (200 ft) high.
