These little guys are quite fast and blend in very well with their sandy surroundings. They have a tough time surviving on well-trafficked beaches, but Chincoteague has made an effort to restrict tourists from access to parts of the island. This is in an effort to protect nesting shore birds, but other species benefit too. I'm so glad I got this picture, doesn't he just melt your heart?
