Fort Washington has a commanding location on the Potomac River as a fort used to defend Washington during the War of 1812. (It was unable to prevent the burning of the city by the British.) The fort is a large primarily brick fort in a bucolic setting in a mostly urban area. This photo is a view from atop the fort walls of an old 19th century house just outside the fort that now serves as the visitor center. This photo reminds me of pastoral 19th century American landscape paintings. it has a very painterly feel.
