The fort known as Castle Clinton was finished in 1811 to defend NYC during the War of 1812. It is in the Battery and although numerous visitors mob the Statue of Liberty the nearby Castle Clinton is much less well known and visited. A shame really as the fort is a very distinctive brick fortress well worth a visit.
