My buddy and I chose an objective for a fun adventure around my birthday: climb to the top of Mount Emerson. We didn't get the earliest start to the day, however, and the sun was already beginning to set before we even made it to the trail at the base of the peak. It all was worth it though being in the alpine zone to experience the alpenglow that the Sierra is so famous for.
