Superior National Forest

In my opinion, the most beautiful and underrated national forest in the USA, is the Superior National Forest. Autumn is a special time up north, especially along the North Shore of Lake Superior. The Sawtooth mountains along the shore line host a variety of trees that all change color at different times which makes for striking scenes of fall colors against the green foliage of summer. I hiked up to the now famous Bean and Bear lake viewpoint and was awed by the colorful hills surrounding me. It was a bit of a rainy, foggy day and that made the autumn colors pop against the gray sky. The aspen and poplar trees had yet to change their leaves so the warm colors against the dots of green still left over from summer were stiking.
