The Smokey Mountain Road in Utah is a popular access road to visit Lake Powell. It meanders in between majestic buttes towering above brown and gray clay. This summer, this place was parched due to the monsoons arriving unusually late. Spotting the beautiful patterns in a river of dried mud, I instantly knew that it would make for a great foreground to complement the butte. I waited for the right light and clouds over 4 hours but the wait paid off. About an hour before sunset, the sun kissed the butte and the tops of brightly yellow-green bushes for a memorable moment.
