For several years in September we go to the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge just off Hwy 191 in the middle of Montana to watch the elk during the rut. There is always a good show of bull elk with their large herd of 40+ female elk, trying to keep their herd together, and chase off other bull elk.
