Two moose share a kiss in the early morning golden hour. A beam of light perfectly lands on them through moody clouds, and the Grand Tetons provide a bold and mystical backdrop. After the bull yearningly leaned in, the cow reciprocated and looked in his eyes the moment their noses touched, giving comfort to the bull as he gently closed his eyes and then bashfully moved his head away. This behavior of rubbing noses is a sign of affection between one of North America's most iconic species. Moose will often have a mate that they stay alongside for their years together in the Tetons, a companionship's strong bond that is only broken if a challenger bull becomes stronger during the Fall rutting season. Throughout the fall months, this bull remained within eyesight of the companion female, and chased away other bulls that tried to approach. With rutting season now past, the bull remained alongside the female into the winter. The lighting here is natural, coming from a very lucky beam of light that perfectly highlights the subject. No bait was used. Getting this shot involved waking up an hour before sunrise, hiking about a mile through dense sage brush, and getting very, very blessed by great lighting coinciding with a magical moment.
