A portion of the South Valley Trail skirts Happyland Camp Five Lake providing nice vistas of the lake from the middle of a dense mountain laurel thicket, the latter often a feature of Piedmont plateau woodlands. Most of the autumn leaves in this area of the park had dropped at this point in the season.
