A ridge of broken rock descends steeply to the alpine Hitchcock Lake where the greenish waters fed solely by snowmelt provide a stark contrast to the jagged outcrops of granite. Rising abruptly from the shores of the water the sheer cliffs of the majestic Mt. Hitchcock look small from the trail along the backside of Mt. Whitney. In the background the many peaks of the Sierras fade due to the distance. Sequoia National Park is truly an amazing and diverse landscape.
