A black skimmer holds a small fish in its bill for the briefest of moments before gulping it down. These birds can be very challenging to photograph while they forage due to their speed, sometimes erratic flight paths, and contrasting black and white plumage. I lay down at the edge of a brackish pool near the Gulf of Mexico to capture the skimmer in action, and was fortunate that all the elements (light, wind, bird, fish) aligned for that shoot.
