Monument Valley is managed by the Navajo Nation. Not only does it have a diverse landscape of buttes and canyons, but the weather is ever changing. Here on one side of the road leading into the Park, you see a storm brewing but yet and dust devil or tornado, created by arid desert sand, meanders its way across the land until it is knocked down by the oncoming rain. The area is considered sacred by the Navajo and their history. It is the first Tribal park of its kind and has since paved the way for other tribes to create protected zones.
