many folks travel to Yosemite National Park to witness the famous "firefall" in February when the setting sun illuminates the ephemeral Horsetail Falls. However, few know a bright moon at the same position in the sky can create the same effect wherein the waterfall, extended from the granite of El Capitan, is illuminated against the shadowed cliffs. This photo shows the full moon illuminating the famous waterfall. The long exposure also shows the current in the Merced River. While thousands of people travel to the park to witness the sunset firefall, the night I took this photo I was the one of only two people out by the river to witness the event.
