Golden hour between the Atlantic and Roanoke Sound coasts makes a powerful statement when cast upon the famous stripes of Bodie Island Light Station on Cape Hatteras National Seashore. A September road trip along North Carolina’s barrier islands allowed me to witness this majesty as a piece of art, not just a statue of historical significance. I got to climb the light house but it was the 156 foot tall monument that stood as my muse. This is not the only moment Bodie shines as it still aids boats nightly against becoming another headstone in the Graveyard of the Atlantic.
