A red damselfly was resting on the snout of an alligator floating in the mirror-like water of a well shaded swamp in Big Cypress National Preserve in mid June. So well shaded was this patch of the swamp that the alligator's iris was wide open. You can almost make out the bright blue sky and white clouds in catchlight on the pupil. The water was so calm, mirror like, and dark that I initially mistook the reflection of the alligator's eye for a floating bubble and walked around to see if I could obscure it from some angle.
