This photo was taken using a historic photographic process from the mid 1800's called a Wet Plate Collodion Tintype. This is the same process that Timothy O'Sullivan would have used when he photographed the Grand Canyon in the 1870's. This photograph was made in 2023 using a large format view camera with a portable darkroom on location. My fellow explorer perched on the South Rim near Duck Rock is my 16 year old son, experiencing the majesty of the Grand Canyon for the first time.
