Paradise Basin- Gunnison National Forest, CO

I took this picture during a backcountry motorcycle trip. The location is Paradise Basin, in the Gunnison National Forest- north of Crested Butte, CO. I believe this is the Slate River drainage, southwest of Schofield Pass on Forest Road 734. The associated location is approximate!

I took the photo because I was inspired by the contrast I saw in the extremes. Near the treeline, the harsh environment only allows the toughest life to exist. As you descend steeply into the observed drainage, the harshness gives way to vibrant, new life. The vividness of the terrain above the tree line, in opposition to the lush green flora below.
