While on the trail up to the Lower Cliff Dwelling of Tonto National Monument I heard rustling on the hillside above so I paused and watched as this Collared Peccary (Javelina) wondered across to a batch of Prickly Pear cactus. I had heard that Javelina actually ate prickly pear cactus, thorns and all, but I had never witnessed this event - until this fateful day.
