By road, it's 140 miles, but only 40 miles through the wilderness if you follow in the former footsteps of the Utes. We had 5 days to traverse the rugged range that separated us from home. I took them to places I'd always wanted to share, and we discovered a few new gems together. We caught fish, negotiated a hundred downed trees, cooled off in lakes and streams, and slept under clouds of stars. They were so tired that they slept through most of the meteors as well as 2 early morning moose encounters. At 14 and 12, my boys were at a perfect age for a rite of passage. They are strong, capable young men ready to face even greater challenges that life will bring.
