The Ballard Locks is home to a vast ecosystem of animals that rely on the salmon that pass through. After a month of photographing herons and other birds, I set out to get a usable photo of one of the many sea lions and seals trolling the waters. This was going to be a challenge as I don't have a long telephoto lens to get more than a small bobbing head in a vast sea of water. As I was looking out, I heard this particular sea lion approach the stairs. I snuck up on the side, crouched low, pointed my camera through the railing and took some photos.
