The Place d’Arms or Jackson Square is a place rich with history. It is the town square of the French Quarter - part of the Vieux Carre Historic District (a National Historic Landmark). Throughout it’s history it has held many ceremonies and parades. During the War of 1812 it is where Major General Andrew Jackson held several large gatherings and now hosts a statue in his honor.

The square is also home to several other National Landmarks - The Presbytere and The Cabildo both bookend St Louis Cathedral. They are prime examples of Spanish architecture. The Presbytere was originally to be the home of the St. Louis Cathedral Clergy and the Cabildo originally held the Louisiana Legistaure. St. Louis Cathedral is, and has been always been a church.

Today, both the Presbytere and the Cabildo are museums and the plaza is still home to many gatherings and parades as well as Jackson’s Statue.
