Wildfire smoke followed us everywhere through the Pacific Northwest in the summer of 2021. There were incredibly destructive fires across the United States and Canada, burning millions of acres of forest and choking the landscape with smoke. The haze at Crater Lake was especially thick. But on our last day in the park, the smoke started to thin out right at sunset, opening up an incredible view of the crater rim and Mount Thielsen in the background. Wizard Island sits in the middle of the lake at the left.
