This night sky image was taken from a campsite on Lake Namakan in mid-autumn, when the only other people on the lake were a handful of fisherman. We took a kayak out from the Kettle Falls Hotel to this rocky spot on the lakeshore. The clouds broke for just long enough to capture this shot of the Milky Way rising above the forest. Because the international border does strange things in this part of Minnesota, this view looks south over the lake into Canada. It's one of the only places in the United States where that's possible.
