It took me nearly 15 years to finally make it to the wave. And honestly, I almost didn't make. After years upon years of donating my fee to the BLM and then the RECREATION.GOV lottery (with even quite a few in-person visits to Kanab) my persistence finally paid off! The downside was now there's a pandemic. I lasted almost 3 years without getting covid, but 2 weeks before my trip to the wave - covid! I imagine it could have been worse, but I was wiped out after getting it. It made what should have been a pretty low kew hike into a grueling trek across the desert. But I made it!
I wanted the perfect photo of the wave in the morning with a few clouds in the sky, and I got it. I was happy with that so we went up past the wave an explored for a few more hours. On the way back we met a group who had hiked out and brought a change of clothes to get some unique photos. We chatted a little while with them and took a bunch of pictures. After looking though my shots, this one really stuck out. The witches of the wave! I am so glad to have finally made it and to have met some very cool people along the way.
