I was staying a the Whale Cabana, a tiny one room cabin on the Juan De Fuca Strait. This bear "Beary" visited on 2 different days. This was the 2nd visit when she was below the cabin eating some Salal berries, finished and came up the stairs and passed the door of the Whale Cabana. I waited about 10 seconds and slowly opened the door and peaked around the corner. She had stopped at the top of the small stairs, turned around, was eating from the Salal bushes and looking at me. She stayed 3 minutes eating, connected with me, eating some more. Though I have had many experiences with bear in the wilderness and understand that they can be very dangerous, in this moment, I felt no fear and felt a shared deep connection.
