While hiking through the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley, I was taken aback by the stark cracks in the dry ground. The trauma of the flash floods from summer 2022 were visible across the valley floor. But their cracks and brokenness did not diminish from the beauty of the park. The sun highlighting the cracks only added to their brillance.
