The famed "rainbow rocks" of Lake McDonald and a solitary autumn leaf. Hiking in the surrounding mountains reveals that all these colorful chips of stone actually originate from the cliffs themselves, and over time have congregated in the lakes and streams that cover Glacier National Park. Lake McDonald is a beautiful place to watch the sunrise or sunset, and the south side of the lake can be accessed by car even when the Going to the Sun Road is closed.
