Glacier's third largest lake is also one of its most remote: a long hike or a slow 6-mile drive over narrow, potholed dirt roads from the tiny little town of Polebridge (home to the sweetest people and most amazing huckleberry bear claws). The lake itself is eight miles long and stretches so far back into the Livingston Range that it seems to trap these ancient mountains in its glassy surface. The result is a near-perfect illusion: a parallel universe that ripples in the wind.
