Ever since I first saw an American Pika at Crater Lake National Park, I return several times a year to sit and watch these cute little Lagomorphs prepare for the harsh winters at altitudes where few other mammals in the lower 48 could survive. Pikas can survive their entire lives in the windswept no-man's land above the tree lines.
