Hikers in silhouette on the Eureka Sand Dunes. Located In the northern part of Death Valley they cover an area of only 3 square miles and rise approx. 680' above the valley floor, making them one of the highest dune fields in North America. Located in the southern part of Eureka Valley which is enclosed by the Last Chance Range to the east and the Saline Range to the west. The dunes "hum" or sing when dry sand grains avalanche down steep faces of the highest dune.
