I backpacked out to sleep alone on the soft white dunes of the White Sands National Monument. I set up my tent, illuminated with colored flashlights, just as the last scrap of sun was fading and the stars were waking up. I spent the rest of the night building sandcastles and exploring the great dunes with silent footsteps.
