This photo was taken on North Manitou Island while rounding the southern tip with a view of The North Passage. The Sleeping Bear Dunes and historic Shoal Lighthouse are within view over Lake Michigan. These were exciting landmarks after hiking over ten miles that day. North Manitou Island is roughly 8x4 miles of protected wilderness with no population and has been described as one of Michigan's best kept secrets.
