My father and I had been hiking for 12 hours already when we encountered two park rangers who informed us a mud slide on the Fern Lake Trail. We had already tackled three peaks, two lakes, and being caught above tree line in a lightening storm. Not wanting to extend our hike any further, we opted to hike through the mudslide. It was a new experience for the both of us and I ended up tossing my boots in the garbage afterwards.
