The father of the national park service was also a fruit rancher. Every season at John Muir's home has something in bloom or ready to pick and eat. These plums were perfectly ripened in July. Guests are encouraged to pick fruit that is ready to eat and rangers can guide you to the right area. On this day, the low hanging fruit was out of reach for the children visiting with their families and we, rangers included, were picking from the high branches to give to the little ones.
