Apparently, FDR can be quite convincing, especially when he's your neighbor. FDR convinced the Vanderbilt's niece to donate this estate to the NPS in the 1940's to preserve a glimpse into the Guilded Age. With 54 rooms, this is the smallest of the Vanderbilt estates. It doesn't seem so small to me!
