Just getting to the unmaintained trail head to Lava Falls trails was a challenge. Summer monsoons made the narrow dirt road—wet and mud-bogged—barely passable. Road ends at the trail: the shortest route rim to river (only 1.5 miles), but also the steepest, a 2,540 foot descent. The truck bed points to the mouth on the canyon's entry, an epic sight and treacherous hike - attempt with extreme caution!
