The photo does take a little explaining - I was out on the BLM when the partial solar eclipse of June 2012 started and I had forgotten to bring the proper viewing equipment. Improvising, the bright crescent you see is the image of the sun as the moon is passing in front of it, reflected from the hood of my truck focused by binoculars. In addition, both the shadow and the reflection of the binoculars are visible as is the photographer, caught in the act.
