While visiting the Carrizo Plain National Monument, I stopped over at the "Painted Rock" to marvel at the beautiful Native American drawings. I was almost finished with my walk-around until I noticed this pair of Barn Owls hanging out on the rock. I love the variation in their plumages and how both birds' coloration matches that of the lichen. It's always a treat to see owls in the wild and I'm glad I was able to spend so much time photographing this pair!
