During a 2011 backpacking trip to Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias N.P. (Americas' largest national park), I had the opportunity to kayak on the iceberg-laden waters of a lake formed at the base of a glacial moraine With a companion and guide, an inflatable kayak, freezing water temperatures and only trekking clothing; the immense, steep sided icebergs offered us little comfort in the event of a mishap. Fortunately, all went well and this incredible landscape remains a treasured memory.
