We took the Tundra Wilderness Tour of Alaska's Denali National Park. Our National Park Ranger extolled the virtues of this almost magical carpet of reds and yellows. Lichens and other low-lying plants are adapted for survival in the harsh climate, but make the most of their "show" in the brief Alaskan summers of 20-hour-sunlit days.
